Vitamin D3 regulates the falcon blood calcium levels by affecting the liver, the kidneys, and the gastrointestinal tract. The active form of vitamin D3 increases calcium absorption from the intestine into the blood, releases calcium from bone, and decreases renal losses of calcium.
Supplemental vitamin D3 has a beneficial effect on the birds' general condition, motility, intestinal absorptive capacity, and quality of the feather. In female birds, vitamin D3 is required for the maintenance of egg production
and eggshell quality. Besides, vitamin D3 is needed for their immune response.
