Thiamin is a B1 vitamin necessary for the proper functioning of many organs and tissues of the body.
Its primary function is to regulate the processes of obtaining energy from carbohydrates and branched chain amino acids.
It also plays an important role in the transmission of nerve impulses, as well as in the metabolism of γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA), acetylcholine and serotonin in the brain.
Thiamin also has a beneficial effect on the immune system by regulating and activating immune cells, and on the antioxidant system (by inhibiting certain pro-inflammatory substances.
